28 week pregnancy update

I am now officially in my third trimester. I went for my glucose test and a regular check-up with my OB yesterday. All checked out well at my OB appointment. Baby boy gave the fetal doppler a couple of swift kicks as Dr. Shah was checking his heart rate (132 BPM). To date, in this pregnancy, I have gained a total of 28.5 pounds (yow-zers!), and I am measuring 29 cm. Dr. Shah says baby boy is head down, which explains why I have more of a waddle lately. Thankfully, the pregnancy is progressing nicely; the only minor complaint I have is some round ligament pain when I try to turn to my other side at night. I’ll start seeing my OB every two weeks now until I’m 36 weeks (then weekly at that point) which is exciting to me because I love hearing the baby’s heartbeat.

Mags wanted a picture of her belly too. I just want to give that sweet skin a big ol’ raspberrry!

“We Whisk You A Merry Kiss-mas”

If you’re looking for an inexpensive Christmas gift, here’s an idea. I wish I could take credit for it, but credit belongs to my friend and former fellow teacher, Sonya G. She gave one of these to me for Christmas one year, and ever since then I have kept the idea in the back of my mind to use. And now, I finally have a reason to recreate her genius for the childcare workers of our MOPS group.

Materials:

whisk ($1.99 each at Target, $0.94 at Walmart-all sold out when I went)

hershey kisses ($2.50 a bag at Walmart)

shredded paper (Dollar Store or make your own)

clear plastic goodie bag (Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or any store that sells baking supplies)

ribbon-wire and curling

tag (here’s the pdf: “we whisk you a merry kiss-mas”)

Directions:

Determine how many kisses you want in the whisk. Gather a small amount of shredded paper. Separate one set of wires on the whisk so there is a space wide enough to put the shredded paper in. Add the kisses. Reshape the wires of the whisk. Place filled whisk in plastic bag. Tie wire ribbon around the whisk handle towards the top of the bag to close it. Tie the curling with the tag under the wire ribbon. Curl the ends of the curling ribbon. Done!

I have about $2.65 in each whisk I made. I had the shredded paper, plastic goodie bags and ribbon on hand for this project.

EK’s water baptism

This post was written on Nov. 21st, but because of blog issues I wasn’t able to publish this post. So here it is now…

Yesterday, we celebrated EK’s water baptism. Last year around this time EK and I were talking in the car and our conversation included her praying for Jesus to live in her heart. Hubby and I are so proud of what God is doing in EK’s life and are looking forward to watching her relationship with Jesus mature.

Hair

Being a female and having two daughters, hair is a frequent topic in our house. Lately, it is MK who is very interested in her locks. She combs her hair and wants to have her hair done. Since she has curls and I do not, I am on a learning curve with how to fix her hair. Thankful I have her Great Meme, Mamaw and Auntie M to help me in this department. Mamaw has passed down some curl hair product to accentuate MK’s locks, and since then, I have busted MK on two occasions with her “beauty shop” set-up in the middle of the living room complete with combs, brushes, water spray bottle, hair spray, and the curl enhancer being slathered in her hair. The other night in one of her primping episodes she got a small round brush stuck in her hair. It took some coaxing, but I was able to get it out with little damage done.

In other hair news, I got a haircut. It’s not that drastic, but I wanted to share so out-of-town family and friends can get a glimpse. So here is the blah picture of me. I now have an great appreciation for those that can take good pictures of themselves.

The pumpkin patch and Fall Festival

This past week has been full of fall activities. First, we went with EK’s preschool class to a local pick-your-own ______ farm (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, pumpkins) to learn about growing pumpkins, petting farm animals, playing in a corn pit, etc. Then on Sunday, our church had their annual Fall Festival. Lots of inflatables and games there—EK’s favorite activity was the princess jumpie and MK’s favorite was getting her hair sprayed purple.

A little over a week ago we celebrated the marriage of my sis, Aunt S, to Chuck (now Uncle Chuck). It was a simple and laid backed event and might I add the weather was beautiful. Good times!

Half way there: 20 wk pregnancy update

This week I turned 20 weeks pregnant; officially half way. I hope the next 20+/- weeks go quickly as I am looking forward to meeting our newest bundle of joy. Things are going well in the preggo department; only minor annoyances to deal with like not sleeping well, hunger, and the occasional sciatic nerve flare ups.

We found out about a month and a half ago we are having a boy. I haven’t posted an official announcement because I wanted to wait until now since this is traditionally when women find out if they are having a girl or boy. It is funny to hear some comments people make when they find out that we are having a boy after having two daughters. Most of them are along the lines of, “Man, I bet Hubby is really excited about that.” To that I answer, “Yes, he is, but he would have been just as excited if we were having another girl.” Thankfully, I married a man who didn’t/doesn’t feel unfulfilled as a man because he has daughters. As cliche as it may sound, really we are so thankful to God and feel utterly blessed to have two great daughters and are expecting a precious baby boy.

At my last OB appointment, I had gained 6 1/2 pounds since the previous appt totaling a 14 pound weight gain so far. I was happy to get these stats as I am trying to gain a little more weight with this pregnancy than with the girls. With MK I lost the baby weight too quickly, and I think that effected the quality of my breastmilk. Don’t want that happening this time.

Well, I can’t believe I am doing this, but I am going to share two belly pics with you (and the world wide web-yikes!). Abby, this is for you since it has been a while since you’ve seen me. And here is the transformation…

P.S. No, I haven’t been tanning my preggo belly. It is just the lighting.

I’d like for you to meet Mary

EK had a Mother Goose party at school today, and she decided the character she wanted to dress up as Mary from “Mary had a Little Lamb.”

I made the little apron to go over her blue smocked dress, and to be honest, I am quite proud of my project. Of course it’s wonderful to have such an adorable model showing it off.

Can you say Little House on the Prairie? Ha!

If we haven’t already told you or you hadn’t heard it through the grapevine, we are expecting baby #3 in early March. Initially the news was a shocker for us as we were not planning for more little ones, but shock soon turned to excitement. We are so looking forward to holding this little surprise blessing in our arms this spring. Here’s some Q & A just so you know:

Q: ”How far along are you?”

A: I’m almost 13 weeks

Q: ”How are you feeling?”

A: Pretty good. I have my days when I am really tired and irritable and sometimes in the evenings I feel a little ‘yucky.’ No morning sickness, so no complaints here.

Q: ”Are you going to find out if you’re having a girl or a boy?”

A: Absolutely! I like to have things planned out so we definitely want to know the sex. We’ll find out mid-October…can’t wait.
